Roulette

Objective:
Bet on the right number or section

Roulette is a classic casino game of chance. The goal is to predict which numbered and colored pocket a small ball will land in after a wheel is spun. Single-zero roulette is often preferred by players because it has a lower house edge compared to its American counterpart, which has both a single and double zero.

Here's a breakdown of the rules, betting, and payouts for single-zero roulette.

The Wheel and Table

  • The roulette wheel has 37 numbered pockets: 1 to 36, and a single green pocket for 0.

  • The numbers from 1 to 36 alternate in color between red and black.

  • The roulette table is a felt layout where players place their chips to indicate their bets. The layout features a grid of the numbers and various other betting areas for different types of bets.

How a Round Works

  1. Placing Bets: Players place their chips on the table layout to make their wagers. You have a variety of betting options, which are detailed below.

  2. "No More Bets!": The dealer (also known as the "croupier") will spin the wheel in one direction and the ball in the opposite direction. After a short time, they will announce "No more bets!" At this point, no one may place, change, or remove any chips from the table.

  3. The Result: The ball will slow down and eventually land in one of the numbered pockets.

  4. Payouts: The dealer will place a marker on the winning number on the table. They will then sweep away all the losing bets and pay out the winnings to the players with successful bets.

Types of Bets and Payouts

Bets are typically divided into two main categories: "Inside Bets" and "Outside Bets."

Inside Bets

These bets are placed on specific numbers or small groups of numbers and offer higher payouts but have lower odds of winning.

  • Straight Up: A bet on a single number (including 0). You place your chip directly on the number's square.

    • Payout: 35 to 1

  • Split: A bet on two adjacent numbers, either horizontally or vertically. You place your chip on the line shared by the two numbers.

    • Payout: 17 to 1

  • Street: A bet on three consecutive numbers in a horizontal line. You place your chip on the outer edge of the first number in the row.

    • Payout: 11 to 1

  • Corner (or Square): A bet on four numbers that meet at a single corner. You place your chip on the common corner where the four numbers intersect.

    • Payout: 8 to 1

  • Basket (or First Four): A bet that covers the first four numbers, 0, 1, 2, 3. You place your chip in the corner where three and zero touch.

    • Payout: 6 to 1

  • Six Line (or Double Street): A bet on six consecutive numbers, covering two adjacent horizontal rows. You place your chip on the outer corner where the two rows meet.

    • Payout: 5 to 1

Outside Bets

These bets cover larger groups of numbers and offer lower payouts with higher odds of winning. They are placed in designated areas on the outside of the main number grid.

  • Red or Black: A bet on whether the winning number will be red or black.

    • Payout: 1 to 1 (Even Money)

  • Odd or Even: A bet on whether the winning number will be odd or even. (Note: The 0 is not considered odd or even and a bet on odd/even loses if the ball lands on 0).

    • Payout: 1 to 1 (Even Money)

  • 1-18 or 19-36 (High or Low): A bet on whether the winning number will be in the low range (1-18) or the high range (19-36).

    • Payout: 1 to 1 (Even Money)

  • Dozen Bets: A bet on one of the three groups of 12 numbers (1st dozen: 1-12, 2nd dozen: 13-24, 3rd dozen: 25-36).

    • Payout: 2 to 1

  • Column Bets: A bet on one of the three vertical columns of 12 numbers.

    • Payout: 2 to 1
